Copenhagen Airport's screens go programmatic
Media Port picked ZetaDisplay to rebuild Copenhagen Airport's ad network from January 2027 — replacing most inventory with digital, wiring in real-time passenger data, and opening it to programmatic buying. Airports are premium travel-retail beauty venues, and when a flagship one turns captive, high-dwell inventory into data-driven programmatic supply, it's a template for how any high-intent beauty venue should be built.
One of Northern Europe’s flagship airports is rebuilding its ad estate as programmatic, data-driven DOOH — and the interesting part is the design, not the glamour. Media Port — the exclusive media operator for Istanbul, Riga and Çukurova airports — has selected ZetaDisplay to overhaul the advertising network at Copenhagen Airport, starting January 2027 (announced 21 July 2026). The rollout replaces most of the airport’s existing inventory with new digital displays, including seven large-format screens at key passenger points, all run on ZetaDisplay’s Engage Suite — which supports programmatic DOOH, real-time optimization, audience analytics, and integrates live passenger-flow data into ad placement. The template on show: take a captive, high-dwell, high-intent audience and make it biddable and data-targeted — the exact recipe a premium beauty venue wants.
What happened
Airports are the archetype of “good DOOH”: travellers are captive, dwell is long, the mood is receptive, and the retail — including a lot of fragrance and cosmetics — is right there. What this deal formalises is the move from selling that audience by hand to making it programmatically buyable and data-driven: real-time passenger flow feeding placement, campaigns optimising on the fly, inventory listed for automated demand. That’s the maturation curve every premium venue class eventually walks — the value was always in the audience; the work is turning it into supply a modern buyer can actually purchase and measure.
What it means for beauty
- Airports are beauty venues, and this is beauty’s venue playbook. Travel-retail is one of cosmetics’ biggest channels; a passenger past security is high-intent and near the till. A cosmetics brand reading this deal should see the same logic that makes salons and clinics work — proximity, dwell and intent — now made programmatic. It’s why place-based is the fastest-growing DOOH segment: the audiences were always premium; the tech is catching up.
- High dwell is the shared asset — but dwell isn’t attention. An airport hold-room and a salon chair both deliver rare, long, uninterrupted exposure, the thing our dwell-time benchmarks quantify. The caution is the same in both venues: long dwell is opportunity, not guaranteed viewing, so the creative and placement still have to earn the look.
- Passenger data without cookies is the beauty pitch too. Targeting on real-time audience and travel data — not personal identifiers — is exactly the cookieless advantage of DOOH: relevance from context, not surveillance. For a beauty network, the equivalent is integrating with SSPs so venue context (venue type, daypart, footfall) becomes the targeting signal, and riding the same programmatic adoption curve this airport is now on.
The caveat that keeps us honest
This is an airport DOOH deployment, not a beauty network, and the details — seven displays, “most inventory replaced,” programmatic and passenger-data capabilities — are company/vendor-reported for a project that doesn’t go live until January 2027; capabilities announced are not yet outcomes delivered. The transfer to beauty is the model (captive high-intent venue → digital → programmatic → data-targeted), not the airport scale. Nothing beauty-specific is asserted beyond what our Research supports, and no beauty benchmark is invented. The durable point: premium DOOH value comes from the audience a venue holds — the job is turning that captive attention into buyable, contextually-targeted supply.
